7 Quick Tips to Control Calories and Portion Size

Weight loss as you know is mainly a calories game. You need to reduce calorie intake to increase weight loss and a leading cause of excessive calorie intake is due to portion size.

Since many of us are so trained to eat large portions nowadays it can be difficult to cut calories, but here are some must-try quick tips for controlling portion size that will help your cut calories FAST and EASY.

1. Cook Less

Yes it’s that easy. If you cook less, there is less to eat! Now the only problem here is cooking more does save money and can be important if you have a family, but if you can, try cooking smaller meals so you are less tempted to have a biggger portion or a second serving.

2. Use Smaller Plates

Plates have seem to have gotten bigger as well. When preparing meals try using smaller plates or even buy some smaller sized paper plates and only put on the plate what fits. This tip alone can cut your calories in half without blinking twice and if you do this with all 3 meals you will be losing weight in no time.

3. Time Your Meals

Eating fast is bad bad bad. It takes time for your body to realize it is full. Sloooowwwwww down your meals. Try and make sure your meals last 30 minutes or so and pause for a few minutes occasionally while eating.

4. Prepackage Meals

This is one of the mostly highly recommended tips by dietitians because it really does work. If you prepare meals ahead of time and prepackage them, there is less of a risk of over eating. Preparing your food ahead of time also saves you time and money if you cook large amounts to last you the week.

5. Drink More Water

Water works well at filling you up and simply drinking a glass of water before and after a meal is a great way to trick your body into thinking it’s more full than it really is. Plus water is great for you and most people are dehydrated because they do not drink enough each day.

6. Use a Food Scale

Counting calories using a food scale is another simple way to stop yourself from eating too much. Have you ever looked at the back of a box of food and said to yourself “WHOA this has a ton of calories!”. The same principle applies here. Count the calories of your meals and you will be much less likely to eat large portions.

7. Brush Your Teeth

Brushing your teeth is a really sneaky way of making yourself not want to eat anymore. The taste of toothpaste and the sensation of a freshly clean mouth makes many people not want to eat anything else for a while. As soon as you are done eating, shine up those teeth!

If you apply even just a few of these tips on a regular basis, over just a few months you can make a surprising impact on your weight loss goals.

Great article with simple things that people can do to watch their calorie In take. Drinking water to fill you up is a great idea. I also read recently that most of us don’t drink enough water. Apparently, if you drink up to 8 glasses a day it cuts your chances of a heart attack by something in the realm of 40%
